As it turned out, half of us really liked the book, one of us hated it and one thought it was so-so. Guess that's how it goes. The discussion was lively just the same.

Please note that we've changed our meeting day to the Second Wednesday of Each Month, instead of the third. See post for next meeting for information on our next selection: Watership Down.

Elizabeth's book signing was a resounding success! We had a great turn out and everyone seemed to have a good time chatting with Elizabeth and getting their books signed. Did anyone else notice that Elizabeth's shoes and clothing matched her book cover - which is quite beautiful, by the way.

We sold out before the signing started. Several people who couldn't attend called in the morning to order a signed copy: I ran out of books! Thank goodness Elizabeth brought lots more! Course we almost sold all of those, too. Signed copies of Diary of a Ghost continued to sell like hot cakes even after Elizabeth went home: we sold all the copies she left with us before the day was done.

Don't worry. If you missed this fun event, you can still get a signed copy of Diary of a Ghost by Mary "Elizabeth" Reynolds at Here Be Books. Elizabeth has promised to bring us more when we get back from vacation on September 2.

Discussion Rescheduled
Since 40% of the book club was sick or injured, we didn't get a chance to really discuss The Historian. So, we're rescheduling the meeting for Wednesday, September 3 at 6 pm. If you've recently read The Historian, whether or not you've attended before, you're welcome to join us! Should be fun.

We'll pick our next book at the September 3 meeting. Bring one or more suggestions. Perhaps we should pick the next 2 books.

Hello. I'm sort of new to the whole Dungeons & Dragons scene, but I've spent many hours reading material to familiarize myself with the game. From what I have read, the age barrier usually isn't a problem with playing DnD sessions. I was wondering if this would be an option for game night.

I'm within a mile radius of Here Be Books, and I would really like to join a DnD group. Since it's the Summer, I have a good bit of time on my hands. Is there any way you could help me find a good group?

The Book Thief was an excellent read. The author's unusual use of descriptive language creates vivid pictures in your mind and heart, both beautiful and terrible. The story was, of course, quite sad - how could any relation of memories of that time not be? While the author only alluded to the atrocities taking place, the allusions were enough to remind me of the vivid accounts written by survivors of the holocaust I had read in the past, "By Bread Alone" by Mel Mermelstein comes immediately to mind.

On a more positive note, the book club's discussion was interesting and visiting is always enjoyable.

We played some Aggravation - it wasn't too aggravating. We played Wits and Wagers - that was different. I'd describe it as guessing answers to trivia no one is likely to know and betting who got closest.

Another group had a fun game of Scrabble going. They seemed to be having fun, though it got pretty warm in here. Our air conditioner couldn't keep up with the heat. We've had it recharged since, so it's working better now.

All total, still a very fun night. Game Night always is. :-)

The concert was a blast! I enjoyed it very much.

We had a great turnout, too. Thank you, everyone who participated. And thank you in particular to Lena and Lauren for entertaining us so well!

Since I'm such a wonderful guy, I'm willing to loan out my copy to anyone that wants to read it. I have the uncut version. My only stipulation is that you have to come to this month's meeting to discuss the book. I know. I drive a hard bargain.
