D. Clayton Meadows Book Signing - Saturday, June 9 at 1:00pm

Filed under: Book Signings — Tags: — tina @ 12:16 pm

Of Ice and Steel by D. Clayton Meadows - Book signing June 9, 2007 at 1:00 pmJust in time for Father’s Day, D. Clayton Meadows will join us Saturday, June 9 at 1:00 pm to sign copies of his tale of men and submarines at war, Of Ice and Steel. It’s Hunt for Red October on steroids. Meadows’ novel gives a nerve-wracking scenario of how men and machines might react to a mysterious threat. In this case, the crew of a WWII German U-Boat with an exotic cargo wakes after sixty years in suspended animation and continues their war mission oblivious to the changes that have occurred in the world at large. The result is a frighteningly realistic yarn of how skilled submariners of different times and nations figure out what happened and deal with it… hopefully, without destroying the world in the process.

Don will be on hand to answer questions and, of course, sign copies of his book, which can be purchased that day or prior to the signing at Here Be Books. Visitors are, of course, welcome to bring copies they purchased elsewhere for signing, too.

To learn more about the author and his book Of Ice and Steel, visit the author’s web site at: www.oficeandsteel.com. For information about the book signing and other Here Be Books events, please contact Tina McDuffie at (843) 695-1498.

FREE Wizard Rock Concert performed by The Whomping Willows Wednesday, May 23 at 5:00pm

Calling all Harry Potter Fans!! Calling all Harry Potter Fans!!

Wikipedia Definition:

Wizard rock is a musical movement dating from 2002 that consists of a number of bands formed by young musicians playing songs about J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter literary phenomenon. The lyrics are usually humorous and simple, and many bands write songs from the point of view of a particular character in the books, usually the character who features in the band’s name. If they are performing live, they may also cosplay that character. Though most fans of the music are previous fans of Harry Potter, some bands have attracted listeners outside of the Harry Potter fanbase. Wizard rock has recently evolved to become deeper and more refined.

The Whomping Willows is touring the East Coast in celebration of their new CD, Welcome to the House of Awesome. The CD will be available for purchase after the event. You can preview The Whomping Willows’ music on MySpace at: http://www.myspace.com/thewhompingwillows.

This event promises to be fun for the whole family. Admission is FREE.

Join Us For the Fun November 4, 2006!
Sign up in the store now!

Grab your trusty, hopefully not too dusty, dice and prepare to face down diabolic monsters and fiendish villains in celebration of the greatest RPG (roleplaying game) ever: Dungeons & Dragons.

As the mists part on this, the third year, of Worldwide Dungeons & Dragons Game Day, we’ll travel back to Ravenloft for the mini adventure, Curse of Gethin Abbey. Whether you’re new to roleplaying or an old hand, don’t miss this chance for exciting adventure in the gray, haunted planes of a world inhabited by vampires and other assorted creatures and monsters. Curse of Gethin Abbey provides a great introduction to D&D for those who are new to the game, but has all the thrills of a full-scale adventure for those already well-versed in roleplaying.

While supplies last, players will receive a free Worldwide D&D Game Day souvenir to add to their treasure trove. Souveniers include special promotional D&D Miniatures and D&D Campaign Cards. Characters for Curse of Gethin Abbey will be provided at the event. You can also preview them on the RPGA website via the links below.

Sign up sheets will be posted at Here Be Books approximately two weeks before the event. You don’t have to sign up ahead of time, but signing up will assure you a place at the table and help us determine how many chairs and DM’s we’ll need.

To learn more about Worldwide Dungeons & Dragons Game Day, visit the official site at www.dndgameday.com. Worldwide D&D Game Day is sponsored by Wizards of the Coast, Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. The celebration will take place at participating gaming retailers across the U.S. and Europe. Join us Saturday, November 4, for a fun-filled day of gaming at Here Be Books.

An Adventure for 4th-level Characters
by Rich Baker

Caught by a fierce winter storm while making their way over the difficult Gethinnar Pass, the adventurers seek shelter for the night in a lonely temple of Pelor. Unfortunately for them, their refuge is not as safe as it seems. Terror stalks the shadowed halls and brooding chambers of Gethin Abbey. Who will survive?

Encounter Levels: Curse of Gethin Abbey is designed for six characters of 4th level. The default Encounter Level for this adventure is 5. DMs wishing to write their own further adventures for D&D Game Day should optimize them to that challenge level.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day 2006

Filed under: Other Events — Tags: — tina @ 11:36 am

Avast! Here be the chance to infuse yer everyday conversations wi’ romance, danger, an’ jus’ plain fun fer a day. It be called “International Talk Like a Pirate Day.”

Arrr! I suppose ye be wonderin’ why thar be such a silly holiday. Well, the answer, me inquisitive friend, be in the question itself: because it be silly and fun.

Here’s some advice from syndicated columnist Dave Barry that will help ye see the advantages of talkin’ like an ol’ sea dog for a day:

To prepare for Talk Like a Pirate Day, you should practice incorporating pirate terminology into your everyday speech. For example, let’s consider a typical conversation between two co-workers in a business office:

BOB: Hi. Mary.

MARY: Hi, Bob. Have you had a chance to look at the Fennerman contract?

BOB: Yes, and I have some suggestions.

MARY: OK, I’ll review them.

Now let’s see how this same conversation would sound on Talk Like a Pirate Day:

BOB: Avast, me beauty.

MARY: Avast, Bob. Is that a yardarm in your doubloons, or are you just glad to see me?

BOB: You are giving me the desire to haul some keel.

MARY: Arrrrr.

As you can see, talking like a pirate will infuse your everyday conversations with romance and danger. So join the movement! On Sept. 19, do not answer the phone with ”hello.” Answer the phone with ”Ahoy me hearty!” If the caller objects that he is not a hearty, inform him that he is a scurvy dog (or, if the caller is female, a scurvy female dog) who will be walking the plank off the poop deck and winding up in Davy Jones’ locker, sleeping with the fishes… [read the whole article]

We’ll Be Startin’ the Celebratin’ Early: Saturday, September 16

To get Talk Like a Pirate Day started right, we’ll begin our celebrations with a visit from Rebel Sinclair, author of the “The Devil of Charleston” and “Spirit of the Shadows.” Ye can meet Rebel, yerself. She’ll be tellin’ tales of real pirates that plagued the coast of Charleston an’ maybe even giv’ us some lessons on talkin’ like buccaneers. When the storytellin’ be done, ye can ask Rebel to sign a book or two for ye. All this be happin’ Saturday, September 16 at 11am and 1pm.

Here Be Monetary Encouragement to Join the Fun

On Tuesday, September 19, the official Talk Like a Pirate Day holiday, to be encouragin’ ye further to join us in our day of fun, we’ll giv’ ye 10% off yer used book plunder if ye talk to us like ye’ve sailed the high seas.celebration. Avast! Ye can’t find a bett’r deal ‘an that if you sail the seven seas!
